Welcome
Once again 2012 was jammed packed with tournaments, social games and trips to new and exciting places.
I believe one the most important benefits of this great game of lawn bowls is the incredible capacity to be able to form many new friendships.
Check out some of the places that are on my calendar for 2013. Hope to catch up with you at one of them.
Big congratulations to the many clubs who hosted the ‘Chicks in Pink’ fund raising days and to the many bowlers and members of the public who participated in these events. Thanks to everyone’s combined efforts we were able to donate many thousands of dollars to chicks (www.materchicksinpink.org.au). Refer to photo’s and write-up’s on page 62.
One of my new “Travel Destinations” is Lightning Ridge, NSW – the Tardis of all clubs. I was lucky enough to get a team into the Ladies Black Opal Triples in June last year and was so impressed that the team is already booked in for this year’s tournament. Check out the NSW calendar of events for 2 great weekends of ladies, men’s and mixed bowls. Check out some great photo’s on page 22.
The other new “Travel Destinations” feature is on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Qld. With over 20 bowls clubs in the district you will be spoilt for choice. Located in some of the most breath taking locations the Sunshine Coast has to offer, you can also take time to visit some of the many attractions the area has to offer. Feature on page 64.
If you are looking for somewhere different to go to check out The Top End feature starting on page 40 for some really great ideas for visiting Northern Territory and Central Australia.
The US Lawn Bowls Open trip just keeps getting better and better each year. Check out the photos and write up on
pages 116-123. Look forward to seeing you on this year’s trip. Get your Early Bird forms in as soon as possible.NOTE – The dates for the US Lawn Bowls Open and the TRIP displayed on pages 118-119 of the 2013 Australian Bowls Directory have been changed. The Open will now run from the 21st to 27th September. Our trip will now run from the 15th to 30th September. See updated details on our US Bowls Open webpage.
Unbelievably beautiful is the only way to describe Lord Howe Island. What a magical place to visit and party in. See how the Lord Howe Island Bowls Club celebrated their 90th Anniversary. Feature starts on page 32.
